Club Board Meeting – October 3, 2020
Meeting called to order 9:00 a.m. by President Rod Flack. Board members present: J ames Chitwood, Dave Price, Don Mellum, Gary Konop, Lee Schwartz, Pat Frantz, Wendi Boos. Larry Myers was absent. No guests were present.
A motion was made by Don and seconded by Gary to approve the September 5, 2020 Board minutes – all were in favor.
Treasurer’s Report: James reviewed the status of club accounts comparing 2020 Year-to-Date period to 2019. An updated financial report will be posted on the club bulletin board. A motion was made to accept the Treasurer Report by Don, seconded by Gary; all were in favor.
Welding Machine Purchases: The General Membership online vote was in favor to purchase the new welding machines: 282 Yes votes; 1 No vote. Lee reported that he was able to purchase the new combo MIG/TIG/Stick welder from CyberWeld on sale for $3700 which was delivered last week. Contact has been made with a vendor to trade-in the old welders as part of the purchase of the new Lincoln Welder.
Facility Update: Lee and Gary reported that a Maricopa County surveyor was at the club taking measurements of the facility. Monitors should be informed to let County Surveyors on the property for this purpose.
Laguna & Blaze Machine Update: Rod reported that both machines are cutting very well using Sheet Cam and VCarve. Rod will meet with a committee of Don Mellum, Ron Curcio, and others to review and update the Cutting Policy. Items for discussion include recertification of cutters when members return from summer break and a possible advance cutting sign-up schedule.
Rod stated that the Laguna Warranty covers the period from shipment of 10/14/2019 for one-year ending 10/14/2020. He is in discussion with Laguna reps to extend the warranty period due to issues beyond our control (Rec Center electrical feed for machine; torch problem, Christmas holidays, etc.). He will confirm the outcome of the warranty with the Board next week.
Club Operating Items:
New Members: Dave reported that new members have been advised to delay signing up until Nov. 1st so that dues will apply to the 2021 calendar year. An Orientation schedule has been developed through November.
Membership Dues Renewal: Membership renewals for 2021 will begin on November 1, 2020. James reported that Larry Boos (IT Chairman) is investigating an on-line payment system for dues renewal. More info to follow.
Locker Renewal Visit Requirement: Rod suggested that due to an exceptional year with Covid-19 shop closures, etc., the requirement of 24 club visits to retain a locker would be waived for this year on an exception basis. A motion was made by Gary, seconded by Don, and approved by all.
Fall Classes: Scheduling classes remains on hold as Instructors are not comfortable teaching due to Covid-19 concerns.
Mailbox Assembly: Tom Griesel and Alan Green have arranged a small crew to begin cutting mailbox parts. The sample mailbox at the Village Store will be returned to the club.

2021 Board Election: Nominations for Board positions for 2021/2022 will be accepted beginning October 3, 2020 and conclude on November 6, 2020 at 4pm. Interested members may sign the Nomination form posted on the club bulletin board or submit their nomination via email to ‘[email protected]’.
Roundtable: Members have questioned why the club will again be closed on weekends per Rec Center guidelines. Rod reviewed Rec Center policy stipulating all chartered clubs remain closed on weekends. It was moved to adjourn the meeting by Gary, seconded by Dave. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 9:50am.
